Pick Somewhere Nice And Public For The First Date

A first date is often the only time you have to make a good impression. The place you choose is just as important as the conversation. If you pick a trashy location, your date may not even go inside to meet you. The right location is vital since it will set the tone for the rest of the date.

Good Locations

A first date should be held at a place where you can enjoy each others company and talk. Choosing a crowded night club or a loud restaurant won’t allow you to do this. You also don’t want to pick a place that is overly pricey. This can make your date uncomfortable, or make you look like a braggart, and no one likes that. Find a nice bakery or a coffee shop that specializes in gourmet desserts. These types of places are going to be a nice place to sit and talk without worrying about time or money. It’s important to check the place out beforehand to make sure it’s a suitable location.

Locations To Avoid

As mentioned before, crowded night clubs or swingers clubs are not a good place for a first date. While they may be a lot of fun, they don’t give you an opportunity to really get to know one another. Overly romantic restaurants may send the wrong message and can make your date uncomfortable. It’s also a good idea to avoid going to secluded locations, back to your place, or anywhere else that requires a lot of trust. It will make your date uncomfortable and they won’t be able to open up and be who they are.

Make Nice Friendly Comments About Hairstyles And Interests

When you are trying to meet new people it can get awkward if you run out of things to say. Fortunately there are some simple tricks you can use to keep the conversation going. Simple compliments and finding shared interests is a great way to keep the conversation from lacking and help you move forward.

Hair, Eyes, And Accessories

If you find yourself needing a compliment, or there is a lull in the conversation, saying something nice about the other persons hair, eyes, or accessories such as earrings or purses is always a good way to go. Just be sure if you are a man that you don’t come across as sounding too effeminate. A woman will appreciate a compliment on her hair or accessories, but not if you go too far with it.

Find Common Interests

A great way to move the conversation forward is by finding common interests. This will give you something to talk about, and could even come in handy when planning future dates. It’s natural to want to impress your date, but don’t feign interest in something just to impress them. It may become awkward later if they start asking questions or talking about things you know nothing about. Instead, find other things that could be common interests. For instance, if they enjoy watching soccer, but you don’t, find some other sports you are both interested in. If that doesn’t work, ask questions from them about soccer. It will open up the conversation and they may enjoy teaching you something new.
